The Government of India, Ministry of Law and Justice annunced the appointment of senior advocate R Venkataramani appointed as the new Attorney General for India for a period of three years. After Mukul Rohatgi declined the offer on 25 September, Senior advocate R Venkataramani has been appointed as the new Attorney General for India. 

• Adv. R Venkatramani has been on Senior Advocate’s panel for the Government of India in Supreme Court and appeared extensively in indirect tax cases.
• He is appointed as a Member, Law Commission of India in 2010.
• He has been appearing for the State of Tamil Nadu as a Special Senior Counsel for the past 12 years and also acting as Special Senior Counsel for the State of Andhra Pradesh.
