The Periyar River originates in the Western Ghats in Kerala and flows westward into the Arabian Sea. It is the longest river in the state of Kerala and an important source of water for irrigation and hydroelectric power generation.
Kaveri (also known as Cauvery) river is not a west-flowing river in India. It is actually a river that flows in a predominantly eastward direction, originating in the Western Ghats in Karnataka and flowing through Tamil Nadu and Puducherry before emptying into the Bay of Bengal on the eastern coast of India.
