Orogeny and Epeirogeny :

All processes that move, elevate or build up portions of the earth’s crust come under diastrophism.
In the process of orogeny, the crust is severely deformed into folds. Due to epeirogeny, there may be simple deformation of the crust. It involves upliftment or warping of large parts of the earth’s crust.
Orogeny is a mountain building process whereas epeirogeny is continental building process .
Orogenic forces cause deformation of the Earth’s lithosphere and result in the occurrence of several geological processes. This process is called orogeny and can take place over a period of several million years. As a result, mountains get formed from the seabed or plains.
Epirogenic forces cause depressions or upheavals of land with long wavelengths and broad ripples. This process is called epirogeny, and the result can be either transient i.e. very short or permanent.
