Bengaluru receives much less annual rainfall than Mangalore because Bengaluru is in the rain shadow area of the Westernn Ghats while Mangalore is located on the sea coast.
The amount of annual rainfall decreases from east to west in the northern plain of India due to the fact that the moisture of the monsoon wind goes on decreasing towards the west as they lose much of their moisture for causing rainfall in areas falling on their path.
