    • Himalayan rivers are perennial and snow- fed. These belong to Indus, Ganga, Brahmaputra system. These are originating at great elevations. The volume of water discharged is less in winter .these rivers are uncertain and unpredictable in their behavior.
    • Peninsular rivers are seasonal and get their water from rainfall. These include the Deccan rivers and the coastal rivers. These are originating at much lower altitudes. The dischargers are very low in the non-rainy months but heavy raining during the southwest monsoon period.
