The Domestic cricket stalwart, Legendary first-class spinner Rajinder Goel who represented Haryana, Punjab and Delhi passed away at the age of 77 due to old age related illness at his residence in Rohtak, Haryana, India. He was born on 20th September 1942 in Punjab, British India (today’s Haryana). Goel’s career:
i.He made his ranji debut in 1957-58 and began his first class careen with Patiala (southern Punjab team) ii.He represented Delhi from 1963 and in 1973 he moved to Haryana. iii.Officially he never represented India but played in 1974-75 Bangalore test against West Indies and in 1979-80 against Australia in which he got 6/120 and 3/43. iv.He played his last Ranji Trophy in 1984-85 representing Haryana.
Key Points: i.He took a total of 750 first class wickets in 157 domestic matches representing Haryana and the North Zone. ii.He holds the record for the most wickets in the Ranji Trophy with 637 wickets. iii.He received the CK Nayudu Lifetime achievement award in 2017 for his service to Indian cricket from the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI). iv.Sunil Gavaskar, former Indian team captain, dedicated a chapter to Goel in his second book “Idols”.
