Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated two advanced research facilities—Sagar Bhavan and Polar Bhavan—at the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) in Goa. These cutting-edge centers aim to strengthen India’s scientific infrastructure in ocean and polar research, aligning with the nation’s sustainable development goals.
Key Highlights:
Polar Bhavan: Spread over 11,378 sq. meters and costing ?55 crore, it includes advanced labs, accommodation for scientists, a 3D “Science on Sphere” display, and will host India’s first Polar and Ocean Museum.
Sagar Bhavan: Covering 1,772 sq. meters with a ?13 crore investment, it houses ultra-low temperature labs, ice core storage, and a clean room for trace metal and isotope studies.
Significance: These facilities enhance India’s capabilities in climate, ocean, and polar research, strengthen its role in global climate efforts, and raise public awareness through educational initiatives.
Future Prospects: They will boost international collaborations, advance research on marine ecosystems and climate change, support coastal disaster preparedness, and contribute to India’s vision of “Viksit Bharat by 2047.”
