World Statistics Day falls on October 20 every five years, every half a decade. Statistics about life and related things are analysed and debated for better decision-making for the times to come.

• The day was designated in 2010 by the United Nations Statistical Commission to put light on the importance of statistics and the significance of academic research on the development of business and civil society.
• The theme of this year is ‘Data for Sustainable Development’.
• To fully implement & monitor progress on the SDGs, decision-makers need accurate & sufficiently disaggregated data and statistics. The quality of data availability has steadily improved over the years.
