India has secured a long-term agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Ma’aden company to import 3.1 million metric tonnes of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) annually for five years starting FY 2025–26.

The move aims to ensure a stable fertilizer supply for Indian agriculture amid global uncertainties.

• The agreement involves three Indian companies—Indian Potash Limited (IPL), KRIBHCO, and CIL—partnering with Saudi Arabia’s Ma’aden to supply 3.1 million tonnes of DAP each year.
• The deal includes a provision to extend the agreement for an additional five years based on mutual consent.
• The contract boosts India’s fertilizer security amid reduced global availability and China’s continuing restrictions on phosphate fertilizer exports.
• This is a significant jump from the 1.9 million tonnes India imported from Saudi Arabia in FY 2024–25.
• The agreement was finalized during Chemicals & Fertilizers Minister J. P. Nadda’s visit to Saudi Arabia, where further cooperation in petrochemicals and pharmaceuticals was also discussed.
